Man acquitted of threatening ex-girlfriend

KOTA KINABALU: An unemployed man was freed by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday from a charge of threatening his ex-girlfriend last year.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus acquitted and discharged Hajirol Halid, 39, without calling for his defence after she ruled that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against the man.

The charge stated that Hajirol, who was defended by counsel Azhier Farhan Arisin, had allegedly threatened to kill the victim aged 37, to commit arson on her house and to pour acid on her at a house at Taman Sepanggar in Menggatal on October 26.

Kota Kinabalu: A Vietnamese businessman won a lawsuit on Friday against a local businessman for breach of contract involving import and export of Australian cattle.

Nguyen Thanh Thuyen was awarded USD 546,920.00 (RM 2.3 million) by the High Court Judicial Commissioner Bexter Agas Michael after he ruled the contract to import and export Australian cattle was breached by Johnny Kerepin Gadoh.

KOTA KINABALU: Three members of two political parties were ordered by the Magistrate’s Court here to undergo a five-day remand for investigation of the alleged siphoning of funds meant for rural projects in Sabah.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus made the order on Warisan Youth chief, Dato Mohd Azis Jamman, 43; Tenom Umno Youth chief, Jamawi Jaafar, 43; and Tawau Umno Youth Chief, Ariffin Kassim, 44. They are being investigated under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

KOTA KINABALU: A local businessman from Telupid has won a High Court appeal over his conviction and sentence for cheating involving project to operate and upgrade the Koktal Route Safety and Camping Ground at Kinabalu National Park.

High Court Judge Datuk Nurchaya Hj Arshad allowed the appeal and acquitted the appellant after hearing both submissions from the Deputy Public Prosecutor Hafizah Zahidah Abdullah and the appellant's lead counsel Mohd Azhier Farhan bin Arisin assisted by counsel Fareez Salleh.
